Fire burns home in Winterville

A fire early Sunday morning severely damaged this house in Winterville.

Winterville - One person is safe today after a fire burned his house early this morning.

Winterville firefighters from Town Station 15 and Rural Station 41 responded to a report of a residential structure fire at 1:31 a.m. at 2661 Railroad Street. They were aided by Ayden Fire Station 42, Red Oak Station 51, Winterville EMS and Pitt County First Responders.

Winterville Fire Chief David Moore said one person was inside when the fire happened, adding that person got out safely. Moore said the fire was believed to have been caused by a heater.
