Greenville Family Dollar robbery suspect arrested

GREENVILLE, NC (WITN)- Greenville Police have made an arrest in the robbery of a Family Dollar.

George Smith Jr., 33, of Virginia beach has been charged with two counts of common law robbery.

Police say that Smith was identified by a traffic officer while on patrol. Officials say during a field interview, officers located the same clothing the suspect was wearing during the robbery.

Smith is being held under a $75,000 bond.

Police are investigating the robbery of a Family Dollar.

Greenville Police spokeswoman Kristen Hunter says that it happened at the Family Dollar at 2530 S. Memorial Drive. The call came in around 11:18 a.m.

Officials say that a white male entered the store and implied that he had a weapon and demanded money. A weapon was never revealed.

The man got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

No one was injured.

The suspect is described as standing 5'9'', with a beard, and wearing a burgundy, black, and gray sweatshirt with jeans.

Officers are at the scene investigating.
