Emergency crews use jaws of life to rescue Craven County crash victim

CRAVEN COUNTY, NC (WITN)- The jaws of life had to be used to help get a person out of a vehicle following an accident this afternoon.

The wreck happened around 2 p.m. on Highway 70 East and Garner Road in James City.

The Highway Patrol says that a Toyota minivan was heading west on Highway 70 and went to make a turn onto Garner Road. Troopers say that the van pulled out in front of a Nissan passenger car heading east on Highway 70, causing the crash. We're told the passenger car ended up in a nearby ditch.

Emergency responders used the jaws of life to remove part of the car to help a person trapped inside.

That person was loaded into a Vidant EastCare helicopter. Troopers tell us that person is being treated for a broken femur.

One other person in the car was taken to CarolinaEast Medical Center.

Trooper say no one in the mini van was injured.

Charges are pending in the case.

Traffic is flowing in both directions on Highway 70.
