EMERALD ISLE, N.C. (WITN) - As communities throughout the east prepare for the tropical system, several groups in Emerald Isle are handling the news of the wet weather in different ways.

For residents and visitors in Emerald Isle, they can expect sustained winds in the 35 to 45 mph range and three to six inches of rain. The greatest effects of this tropical system is expected to began around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

For those visitors, it's not exactly welcomed, but it's something they're dealing with, many by just staying inside.

As businesses and visitors prepare to cope, government officials are hard at work preparing the area for the weather.

"For this particular event, we've removed all the trash from the trash cans on the beach, we've checked all of our storm water pumps to make sure they're functioning properly, we checked all our generators to make sure they're functioning properly, we'll have crews out on the beach tomorrow morning dealing with any trash issues that might still be out there," says Frank Rush, the town manager.

Despite the storm, all government offices and the community center on the island will be open on Tuesday. All town services will continue to be provided as normal.
