Electrical fire cuts power to Lenoir & Greene county residents

An electrical fire cut power to residents in two Eastern Carolina counties early Friday morning.

Hugo Fire Chief Johnny Craft tells WITN that a power line caught fire at the intersection of Herman Moore Rd. and Hugo Rd. around 1:45am Friday.

Craft says the fire was under control within about 5 minutes, but a number of Pitt and Greene EMC customers lost power in the Hugo area of Lenoir County and in the Northern part of Greene County.

There's no word on the cause of the fire at this time or exactly how many people lost power.

We've reached out to the electric company for more information and will update this story as we learn more.
