Flu deaths in state surpass last season totals

RALEIGH, NC (WITN) - Flu deaths in North Carolina have well surpassed those from all of last season, according to numbers released on Thursday.

The state Department of Health and Human Services says 18 people died in the state last week because of the flu, while 27 passed away the week before.

That brings the total number of flu deaths in the state to 253, compared to just 218 for the entire 2016-17 flu season.
