EDGECOMBE COUNTY, NC (WITN) - The Highway Patrol has identified the woman killed and the man injured in a crash involving an Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office vehicle.
According to Sgt. Michael Baker, the crash happened around 1 p.m. Wednesday on McKendree Church Road.
He said Koshala Hyman, 41, died at the scene, while Kristopher Hyman, 39, was injured in the accident. The Highway Patrol could not immediately say whether the two people, both from Tarboro, were related to each other.
Bryan Corey, 36, of Tarboro, was "working in the capacity of the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office" when he was driving a 2007 Ford pick-up truck.
Baker says Corey was towing an impound vehicle to a salvage yard on a tow dolly when the vehicle became detached from the dolly, crossed the center line and struck a 2009 Chevrolet passenger vehicle head-on.
Kristopher Hyman, who was driving the car, was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville with serious life-threatening injuries.
Corey was not injured.
Baker says the accident is still under investigation.
