Eastern Carolina highways getting crowded with evacuees

KINSTON, NC (WITN) - Some major highways in Eastern Carolina are getting clogged with hurricane evacuees.

U.S. 70 through Kinston is backed up for a couple of miles as people leave the coast and head inland.

U.S. 264 in Greene and Pitt counties are also seeing heavy traffic from those leaving the Outer Banks.

The Highway Patrol says for updated travel conditions and evacuation routes, people should go to DriveNC.gov. .
