ECU expands their Center for Counseling and Student Development

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - East Carolina University says after a major increase in various counseling needs, they have two new additions to their Center for Counseling and Student Development ahead of the new academic year.

Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Virginia Hardy says students requested 9,000 appointments with counselors last school year, an increase of 1,800 appointments over two years ago, which is why they've added two more counselors to their staff.

Hardy says that some students may need more support to help keep them resilient, especially during transitions.

When students return in the fall, they will be given a self-assessment about resiliency and offered help to deal with stress through relaxation techniques and changing unproductive negative thoughts.

Lynnette Taylor will have much more on what this means for current and future students alike, tonight on WITN News at 6.
