GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) - A vice chancellor at East Carolina University is battling cancer.
Dr. Jay Golden, who is Vice Chancellor of Research, Economic Development and Engagement, posted a picture on Twitter holding an ECU "no quarter" flag that says "no quarter 4 cancer".
In the tweet, Golden said Monday was his first day of radiation and chemotherapy, and asked others to re-tweet the picture to show support for the fight against cancer.
"Researchers and Health Care Providers @ECU working hard to find cure," Golden tweeted.
Golden told WITN that he is undergoing six weeks of treatment at the UNC Cancer Center after he noticed a small lump on his neck and doctors discovered oral cancer.
"My prognosis is incredibly high (greater than 90 percent survival rate) and Pirate Nation will have me around for another 30-plus years," the vice chancellor told us in an email this afternoon.
Golden started at ECU just last summer and before that a was a faculty member and chair at Duke University.
