WAYNE COUNTY, NC (WITN) - The NCDOT says the portion of Mark Edwards Road in Wayne County is reopen through the weekend.
It was closed due to repairs to a bridge between Parkstown Road and East New Hope Road.
The DOT says it will close again on Monday as repairs continue, but the closure should only last one day.
An Eastern Carolina highway is shut down because of emergency repairs on an aging bridge that has wooden supports.
The North Carolina D.O.T. today closed a portion of Mark Edwards Road in Wayne County.
The bridge, between Parkstown Road and East New Hope Road, was built in 1950.
The D.O.T. says while the bridge deck is concrete, it has a wooden substructure that has deteriorated. The span was reconstructed in 1972, according to the D.O.T, and crosses West Bear Creek.
The bridge could reopen as early as Saturday, the D.O.T. says, but could possibly be as late as Monday.
Drivers are being asked to use New Hope Road, U.S. 13 and the U.S. 70 Bypass for a detour.
