DA seeking death penalty in Pasquotank prison employee murders

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WITN) - Prosecutors announced today that they will seek the death penalty against four inmates who are charged with the deaths of four prison employees back in October.

Mikel Brady, Jonathan Monk, Seth Frazier, and Wisezah Buchman were all in court today as the district attorney in Pasquotank County announced the move.

Killed in the October 12th escape attempt at the Pasquotank Correctional Institution were maintenance mechanic Geoffrey Howe, correctional officers Justin Smith and Wendy Shannon, as well as sewing plant manager Veronica Darden.

The four died during an attempted escape at the Pasquotank Correctional Institution on October 12th.

The inmates were at a court hearing today in Elizabeth City.

Pasquotank houses approximately 676 male inmates in close, medium and minimum custody.
