Board recommends revoking charter for Bertie County school

WINDSOR, NC (WITN) Parents, staff and community supporters are coming together tonight to see what they can do to save their school.

The North Carolina Charter Advisory Board is recommending the charter for Heritage Collegiate Leadership Academy in Bertie County be revoked.

The school opened in 2014.

Earlier this year the state outlined several concerns, including low performance, an audit turned in late, and licensure non-compliance issues.

The founder of the school, Dr. Kashi Bazemore Hall, wrote on Facebook that she believes this is political in nature.

A "Save Our School' meeting is taking place tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Cashie-Heritage Convention Center in Windsor.
