'Blessing of the Animals' to raise money for shelter

GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) - The Pitt County Animal Shelter and Friends of the Pitt County Animal Shelter are holding the 3rd annual 'Blessing of the Animals' on October 1.

Organizers say that the animals will receive a medallion and certificate and their owners will a goody bag. A photographer will also be present to take pictures of the animals.

Donations will be accepted for the Pitt County Animal Shelter and Friends of the Pitt County Animal Shelter but they are not required.

Organizers say all kinds of pets are welcome, so long as they are leashed or caged and controlled. In the past, many cats, dogs, a snake and even a chicken have been blessed. If your pet doesn't do well in crowds, you're also welcome to bring a photo of your pet to be blessed.

The blessing begins at 3pm on Oct. 1 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at 1801 S. Elm Street in Greenville.
