A few days left to visit Santa and see snow at Beary Merry Christmas

Christmas is just days away and Beary Merry is wrapping up with a few final activities.

Bear Plaza will be covered in snow every night, now through December 24th.

Children are invited to visit Santa Claus to tell him their last minute Christmas gifts. Santa House hours are from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. as well as 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, while Saturday's hours are 10 a.m. to noon.

Centenary United Methodist Church in New Bern has hosted a Live Nativity for at least 60 years. It will return this week on Thursday, Friday and Christmas Eve, at 7 p.m. each day.

There also will be a special Christmas Eve 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pick Up Unique Last-Minute Gifts event. There will be vendors with traditional Christmas dinner vegetables and goods from local bakers, too.

Whether it's the music or Santa asking if you've been naughty or nice this year, there's something for everyone to enjoy at the fifth annual Beary Merry Christmas in Downtown New Bern's Bear Plaza.

Tryon Palace is once again holding their Candlelight: Colonial Christmas Celebration today at 4:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. You can tour the grounds, enjoy live performances and an authentic tavern.

Santa's House will be open in Bear Plaza in downtown New Bern from 10-2 p.m. and then 3-8 p.m. on Saturday, where snow will also fall from 6-8 p.m. On Sunday, Santa's House will be open from 12-6 p.m. with snow falling again from 6-8 p.m.

"We do it every year," says one visitor, Angela McClure. "It's a tradition. We come out and play in the snow and we see Santa."

Seeing ol' Saint Nick seems to be at the top of everyone's to-do list.

"The shops are great down here," Ryan Coughlin says. "Everyone's friendly, the kids love it. We come down, we see Santa every year and the small shops, we just love the atmosphere."

An atmosphere of Christmas magic that the Downtown Council of the New Bern Chamber of Commerce has been creating since 2012.

"We do have a thriving downtown and we want to keep it that way," says Amanda Banks, the chair of Beary Merry Christmas. "And we want to bring people into our downtown and so having events like this is important to do that."

The children, whether young or older, say it's the Christmas cheer that makes them want to return each year.

"It helps you believe in Santa and stuff and it helps you have fun and get ready for Christmas," says Goodwin Wheeler, 10.

They will also have snow every Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. up until Christmas.

WITN is a proud sponsor of Beary Merry Christmas and you can find all the event details below.
