Asthma and Safety Fun Day held at South Greenville Elementary School

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Local health care providers teamed up to help kids with asthma on Thursday.

The Children's Miracle Network teamed up with the Pediatric Asthma and Injury Prevention programs at Vidant Medical Center to host an Asthma and Safety Fun Day at South Greenville Elementary School.

Kids with asthma had their conditions checked and received refreshers on using their medications.

The kids were also encouraged to play and stay active, while receiving tips on how to avoid injuries and play safely.

"We don't want children sitting at home," explains Theresa Blount with the Vidant Pediatric Asthma Program. "We want them out playing. And with proper asthma management, they can all things other kids can do."

Every child also received a free bike helmet and the chance to ride bikes during the event.
