Dozens participate in Community Tree Day

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Despite the rain, more than 100 volunteers planted trees along the Greenville Greenway Saturday morning.

The President of ReLeaf, Hunt McKinnon, says they have been planting trees on Community Tree Day in Greenville for several years and he's glad the the rain did not scare away volunteers.

Since ReLeaf began in 2010, 1,650 trees have been planted.

McKinnon says a majority of the trees are donated by Carolina Seasons Nursery and they've been able to continue the annual event because of donations and volunteers.

He also says this project has invested nearly $300,000 in making Greenville greener.
