One in eight women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer over the course of a lifetime. Yet, in Onslow County, only 65% of females over the age of 40 reported having a mammogram, which is lower than the overall rate for North Carolina (68%).
When it comes to breast cancer, screenings and early detection are the best form of prevention. That’s why Onslow Memorial Hospital stands behind the recommendation that all women should get an annual mammogram starting at the age of 40.
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Jennifer Provost, the Assistant Director of Imaging Services at Onslow Memorial, is here to discuss October’s Health Minute topic—breast cancer awareness and the benefits of 3-D Mammography.
3-D mammograms are quickly becoming the new standard screening—and for good reason. Not only does 3-D mammography yield more detailed and accurate results in detecting breast cancer, it also provides a 40% increase in detecting invasive cancers as well. And Onslow Memorial Hospital is proud to offer this life-saving technology to the Jacksonville community.
Talk to your doctor about receiving a 3-D mammogram, and visit Onslow.org/Mammogram to schedule your annual mammogram using our online portal. Now through November when you schedule a current or future mammogram online you’ll also be entered into our prize giveaway!
