Bertie Early College High School - Cody Leanne Burton

CODY LEANNE BURTON
BIOGRAPHY:
My name is Cody Leanne Burton and I attend Bertie Early College High School. I have always had a huge passion for science and through a biotechnology class offered at my school, I had the chance to expand my knowledge in a field that I love. I love all the opportunities that I have had to travel and expand my knowledge of science. I love presenting my research from my class to others at any given opportunity. I also love science because it allows me to speak a language that most people can not fathom. I love reading and writing short stories and poetry. I love singing at the top of my lungs to the radio when I am driving around. I love spending time with my family and friends, because those times always make the best memories. I love animals and I have three dogs and two cats. I also love taking care of horses as they are my favorite type of animal. In the fall of this year, I will be attending North Carolina State University as a poultry science major with the intentions of pursuing a PhD. I also hope to one day return to Bertie County so that I can give back to the small community that had such a huge impact on my life.

SCHOOL: Bertie Early College High School
NAME: Cody Leanne Burton
AGE: 17
PLANS FOR NEXT YEAR: Next year I plan to attend North Carolina State University with a major in poultry science.
WHAT IS THE MOST CHALLENGING TASK AS A SENIOR: Juggling deadlines and making sure you can apply for colleges, scholarships, and complete all your work.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR UNDERCLASSMEN: Make sure you stay on top of things and get all your work and applications done as soon as possible.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR SENIOR YEAR: Getting my acceptance letter from NCSU.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS: Working in a lab in Research Triangle Park conducting research or possibly making recombinant proteins that are otherwise not commercially available for others to use in their research.
WHO IS THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSON IN YOUR LIFE AND WHY: The most influential person in my life would have to be my science teacher Mr. Bruce Boller. Throughout high school he has motivated me to do my best, led me to find my passion in the scientific field, challenged me to think and work outside of the box and has given me all the resources and guidance necessary for paving a bright future for myself.
I AM MOST UNIQUE BECAUSE: My determination to achieve success in all aspects of my education. I work extremely hard and strive for A’s in all my classes.
WHAT IS THE ONE QUOTE YOU LIVE BY: “No amount of experimentation can ever prove me right; a single experiment can prove me wrong.” -Albert Einstein
WHAT ARE 5 THINGS YOU VALUE MOST IMPORTANT AT THIS POINT IN YOUR LIFE: My family, my education, my future, graduating, and paving the path to my future career.
IF YOU COULD MOVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD IT BE AND WHY: There are so many places I would like to move to but if I had to choose one I suppose it would be France so that I could experience different cultures than those I am accustomed.
WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOUR CLASSMATES STILL DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU AFTER ALL THIS TIME: I have never met my father and was raised in a single parent household by my mother.
WHICH YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL WAS YOUR FAVORITE: 10th grade
IF YOU WERE STRANDED ON A DESERTED ISLAND AND COULD ONLY TAKE ONE ITEM WITH YOU, WHAT WOULD IT BE?: A book shelf full of books because I wouldn’t survive without being able to read!
