Advanced Piloting Course - A Unit of The United States Power Squadron Provided by the Pamlico Sail & Power Squadron


Date: Beginning January 23, 2018 and
Each Tuesday for 8 weeks

Time: Evenings 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Cost: $65for Members or
$85 for non-Members
(only $10 more respectively for a
couple sharing the course materials)

Location: 1st Presbyterian Church
211 W 2nd Street, Washington, NC

Course Description:
Advanced Piloting is the second in the sequence of USPS courses on navigation. It continues to build coastal and inland navigation skill, allowing you to take on more challenging conditions – unfamiliar waters, limited visibility, and extended cruises. GPS is embraced as a primary navigation tool along with other electronic navigation tools. The course will include:
 Review of skills learned in Piloting Course
 Advanced positioning techniques such as advancing a line of position
 Other electronics: radar, depth sounders, autopilots, chartplotters, laptops, etc
 Hazard avoidance techniques using electronics (e.g., “keep out” zones in GPS)
 Collision avoidance using radar and GPS
 Working with tides: clearances, depth, effects of current
 Piloting with wind and currents
 The “Seaman’s Eye” – simple skills for checking that one is on course

Featured Event: Autism Support Group Interest Meeting

ASNC chapters provide a place for families of children and adults with autism to meet, share and learn about autism. This meeting will gauge interest in creating a support group chapter within Elizabeth City/Pasquotank and surrounding areas.


Meeting objectives:
-To gauge interest in creating a local support group chapter
- To get answers to frequently asked questions
- To provide resources to families
