Breaking The Stigma Mini Conference
A 3-Hour Community Forum sponsored by the Gregory B. Davis Foundation, A Better Chance, A Better Community and The Rural Health Group. Stigma associated with HIV, other medical conditions, mental illness or disability, prevents a person from seeking
treatment, seeking support, or following treatment guidelines. Health related stigma destroys human dignity. It is a set of negative, unwarranted beliefs, or a strong feeling of disapproval that a society or group of people may hold about such conditions. This
forum hopes to not only be the start of honest and open dialogue, but also a Call to Action to strategic planning and engage our community in a dialogue on ways we can address stigma. It will bring concerned citizens, community leaders, organizations, and professionals together to discuss how this affects our community, our families, and
individuals as we strive to live healthier and fuller lives. We will look not only at HIV stigma, but other health related stigmas as well.
