The Jacksonville Police Department's National Night Out 5K Race, also known as “Running with the Law,” is set to take place this Saturday, August 2nd.
This is the second year for the race, and Chief Michael Yaniero hopes this event will further promote cooperation between officers and the community in helping to prevent crime in the city.
Law enforcement officers from a variety of agencies are expected to participate.
The event begins at 7:30am Saturday at the Jacksonville Commons Recreation Center.
Participants can register at www.jacksonvillenc.gov or in person at the Commons Recreation Center.
Early registration is $20.00. The cost to register on the day of the race will be $30.00.
All proceeds from the race will benefit the North Carolina Special Olympics.
Runners are encouraged to dress up as a “bad guy” and “run with the law.”

The city's National Night Out will take place on Tuesday, August 5th at Riverwalk Park from 5:00pm to 9:30pm. There will be free entertainment, raffles, vendors, displays, fireworks and more.
