Spreading the Christmas cheer was what many people in the east were trying to do Saturday in Greenville.
Over a hundred Pitt County law enforcement officials, students, and Salvation Army volunteers got together in the Greenville mall Saturday to collect toys for children in need. It was the kickoff of Operation Santa Claus 2009.
Christine Clift of the Greenville Police Department spoke to WITN about how important it is for people to donate a toy this holiday season.
She said, "we have so many right now who just don't have, or are struggling to feed their families, let alone give them a Christmas present for Christmas. So we do this so every child has at least one or two under the tree so they're not left out."
This isn't the only opportunity for people to give and be apart of the program. There will be collection boxes in schools and other locations throughout the county if you want to donate this holiday season.
