Project Will Benefit Residents And Visitors Alike

A new pedestrian walkway is being built in the Onslow County town of Swansboro.

The walkway will run three-fourths of a mile along the south side of Highway 24.

"This long-anticipated improvement will link businesses along our gateway corridor and community amenities such as Municipal Park to our beautiful downtown district and our waterfront access areas there,” said Swansboro Mayor Scott Chadwick. “We hope that this project – the largest of its kind in Swansboro’s history - will be just the first step in an ongoing effort to improve pedestrian routes within our community.”

Officials say the project costs $300,000. A federal grant provided $152,000 of that amount. The walkway should be completed in two months. Sunland Builder of Cape Carteret is building the walkway.
