Thousands Come Out For Meet the Pirates Night

Dowdy-Ficklen stadium was buzzing with activity Saturday night as the ECU Football Team held its 16th annual Meet the Pirates Night.

More than 10,000 of the Pirate faithful showed up to take pictures, get autographs, and meet the 2010 version of the pirate football team.

The Pirates open the season in two weeks against Tulsa.

To Squinting. Get a new pair of glasses or a bigger computer. The picture looks fine to me. Bet you could do better if you tried.

Oh yeah Dave, Yankee Stadium and Dowdy-Dicklen are two of the best when you are a ECU Pirates fan and a NY Yankees fan who has been on the turf of both of those places. That person was me. Where is the best turf you set foot on? Some high school football field? Why? don't you go hide in your closet and keep pulling for Western Kentucky, while we are pulling for the purple and gold team that makes the best college football come from EAST of I-95.

John: Dave can't help himself as he suffers from a chronic case of DA syndrome. Go Pirates!

To "Dave" - to a 6-year-old boy walking on the field at Dowdy-Ficklen IS probably like walking into Yankee Stadium, Madison Square Garden, or Wrigley Field. Have you been to all those places? If so, I can probably do you one better. I've walked on the grounds of the mother of all stadiums - the Colosseum in Rome - and, all three of the venues you listed pale in comparison, but you don't see me up here trying to bash the excitement of ECU fans and their children. So, keep your sarcastic comments to yourself.

We went and it was a good crowd, and I thank the offensive line and wide receivers who were friendly and nice to a little 6 year old boy who couldn't believe he was on the Pirates field!
