It was almost 20 years ago that a man from Beaufort County was killed while serving in the Gulf War. But his family and friends say they have not forgotten him, and they want a bridge in Washington to be renamed to honor him.
Art Carawan and Holly Ange have started a petition to rename Runyon Creek Bridge in Washington to Captain Patrick B. Olson Bridge. Both were friends with Olson, who was a pilot in the Gulf War and was killed when missiles hit his plane less than 24 hours before the war ended.
Carawan and Ange have started a facebook page and petition that already 900 people have joined.
Ange says the bridge is a vital part of getting to and from Washington, and so she thinks it is fitting for it to be renamed after Olson because he and other service members were a vital part of the war.
