Washington High School - Ryan Cowell

Ryan Cowell

BIOGRAPHY:
My name is Ryan Cowell. I was named the Chief Marshal for the National Honor Society last year. I am also a senior editor for the yearbook, a member of the Playmakers drama club, and a founding member of the chess club. I was also selected to attend North Carolina Governor’s School in 2012. The five week Governor’s School program really helped to open my eyes to the rest of the world around me. I was able to interact with students from other schools in North Carolina, who offered different ideas and opinions.

Outside of school, I am heavily involved in Boy Scouts. I am an Eagle Scout from Troop 99, and a member of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s National Honor Society. I have had many leadership opportunities through Scouting, including two consecutive terms as Senior Patrol Leader, and I have served in numerous other positions within my Troop and the local Order of the Arrow Lodge. Through Scouts, I have also had the chance to provide service to others. My membership in the Order of the Arrow has been my biggest opportunity to serve others. One opportunity I had through the OA was to attend Summit Corps in 2011. This was a nation-wide service project for the OA, that involved traveling to West Virginia and carving trails through the National Park lands in the mountains.

Next year, I will be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I will major in Biology with plans to attend medical school.
