North Pitt High School - McKenzie Shelton

McKenzie Shelton

BIOGRAPHY:
Hi there! My name is McKenzie Shelton and I am a senior at North Pitt High School, home of the Panthers. One of my favorite quotes, from author Ralph Waldo Emerson, says that, “Life is an experiment, the more experiments you make, the better.” At North Pitt, I have had the privilege of being a part of many of fulfilling experiments in the form of clubs, academics, and extracurricular activities, such as SGA , Drama Club, Link Crew, National Honor Society, Varsity Track & Field, and Student Advisory Council.

Your time in high school is what you make of it, and I myself have thoroughly enjoyed my time. Some highlights of my high school career include winning Shakespeare Competition at my school and regional levels in 9th grade, earning me a free trip to compete in Nationals in New York City, attending multiple enlightening leadership seminars such as Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership at NC State, and Pitt County Teen Leadership Institute, volunteering as a counselor for local art camps, Special Olympics, and Episcopal youth retreats, having the honor of being accepted to Governor’s School of North Carolina in the area of Theatre, getting a part time job as a children’s caregiver at my local gym, and hosting North Pitt’s first ever benefit show for the arts.

This summer, I will travel to Rome, Italy, for my first international experience and I have been accepted to East Carolina University’s Honors College and EC Scholars Program, where I will be studying psychology and communication this coming fall. I am so grateful to those who have supported me, especially my parents, sister, close friends, and teachers. Best of luck to every student who is graduating this year, Arrivederci!

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
-Irish Blessing
