Logan Beyer

Buried in papers, striving to understand –

Glistening in sweat, eyes upturned towards the rim –

Hands outstretched, scrubbing beds, spinning squealing children –

Smiling –

Mesh these together, and that’s me.

I love learning, love the process of asking why and suddenly understanding. I love basketball –the hours spent shooting, and the intense, pull-it-out-as-a-team rush of games. I love my family, my friends, my school. But most of all I love the connections formed between people, the bonds forged from helping and being helped by others.

Throughout high school, I’ve been blessed by all these things. Parrott Academy has provided rigorous classes, the chance to serve as class vice-president and president of Senior Beta, and so many open doors. Outside experiences – like Voice of Democracy, Summer Ventures, and Governor’s School – have allowed me to develop passions for writing and science. I’ve enjoyed four years on cross-country, serving as senior captain, and of course – varsity basketball.

Everyone I know has challenged me to grow – to constantly reevaluate who I am, what I stand for, and what I’m doing about it. My family, friends, teachers, pastors, and counselors have ingrained in me the meaning of community. The love they show me defines how I strive to interact with everyone. Their influence inspired me to do the thing I’m most proud of – working with special needs children in Guatemala.

Looking towards my future as a BN Scholar at Duke University, I hope to continue growing – to learn more, do more, but always remember where I’m from.
