Sophia Yang

BIOGRAPHY:
Hello I am Sophia Xiaojing Yang from West Carteret High School. I grew up in a small village in China and moved to America when I was nine. Because I have experienced the difficulties of adapting a new culture and learning a new language, I work as a volunteer with helping younger ESL Chinese students with their English. During my spare time, I also volunteer as a candy striper at the local emergency room.

I enjoyed playing tennis on the Varsity Tennis team and mallets in the marching band. I am also the president of the International club, celebrating diversity and promoting acceptance with students from different part of the world, such as China, Taiwan, Azerbaijan, Japan, Spain, Korea, Pakistan, Thailand, and Mexico.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the past four years at West Carteret High School. Here I would like to thank all the support, opportunities, and education that the West Carteret faculty has provided me. Lastly, I want to thank my parents for instilling the importance of education in me and motivating me to always do my best in everything.

Next year, I will be attending N.C. State University in Raleigh. NC State was very generous to me and allowed me to enroll as a Park Scholar. I can’t wait to join the Wolfpack and continue my journey through life!
