Mallory Byrum

BIOGRAPHY:
Hey everybody! My name is Mallory Byrum. In high school, I have been part of the cross country team, National Honor Society, Interact Club, Environmental Awareness Club, and Yearbook Club. I have a lot of school spirit, especially since Tarboro High’s football team has been state champions for three years in a row. As editor of the yearbook, this year I was able to be on the sidelines at all of the games, including the state championship game. I’ve loved absolutely every minute of my senior year, despite being extremely busy.

I’ve been a Girl Scout since I was five years old and a few years ago I earned my Gold Award, which is equivalent to the Eagle for Boy Scouts. In my project, I addressed the issue of literacy awareness in my community. I wrote a children’s book about my town’s history, and talked to little kids at daycares and afterschool programs about the importance of becoming strong readers. This year I have volunteered at the local elementary school with the “Reading Buddies” program, helping children learn to read.

In the fall, I will be attending East Carolina University as part of the Future Pirate Nurse Village. I plan to major in nursing, minor in Spanish, and become a Family Nurse Practitioner. In ten years, I definitely see myself working in the Pediatric ICU at the new Children’s Hospital that is currently being built in Greenville, North Carolina.
