Cameron Whitaker
In the tenth grade I joined the Hatteras Volunteer Fire Department and the Frisco Volunteer Fire Department. In just a few short months, I discovered my passion, which is the fire service. I fell in love with the daily tasks and training of the fire department. In the future, I want to make a difference each and every day to my friends and neighbors as a firefighter.
Hurricane Irene Recovery assistance was something to which I readily volunteered. A group from Frisco Volunteer Fire Department traveled to Rodanthe for weeks completing any tasks handed to us. We were a special group of people. We pulled carpets, fueled generators, and assisted with providing emergency supplies to the community. Little did I know that growing up on the Outer Banks would help me plan for my future. My small community roots are something that I cannot shake.
