First Prize Hot Dog Sauce Friday, September 7, 2007

1 TBSP cooking oil
1 medium onion, chopped fine
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 lb lean ground beef
3 TBSP chili powder
2 TBSP vinegar
2 TBSP brown sugar
1 cup tomato juice

In a heavy saucepan, cook onion in oil until it starts to brown. Add garlic and ground beef. Cook, breaking up the beef, until it has lost all color. Drain fat if necessary. Stir in remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil and cook until liquid has cooked out and sauce is thick. This is enough for 8 or 9 hot dogs depending on how heavily you put it on. This great on a hot dog with some shredded cheddar cheese added.
