Have a Heart Sandwich Friday, February 8, 2008


Dacia Sharpe (Patrica Well’s granddaughter)

1 lb thin sliced ham or turkey
1 pack Swiss cheese, sliced
several nice lettuce leaves
1 nice ripe tomato
1 loaf thin sliced sandwich bread


Cut the bread into heart shapes using a cookie cutter which is close to the size of the bread. Save the bread scraps to use in other dishes or to feed the birds. Using the same cookie cutter, cut the meat and cheese slices to match the bread. Add lettuce and tomato. Top with another heart shaped piece of bread and garnish with a pickle or olive.

Note: If I were making these, I would add some mayo and mustard. Dacia does not like mayo or mustard so her sandwiches do not have it.

Now here is a Dacia tip. Roll sugar cookie dough from the refrigerator section of Food city thin. Cut out heart shapes. Dust with red sugar sprinkles and bake at 350 for 10 minutes.
