2 loaves of frozen bread dough
1 Jona Apple (or the apple of your choice)peeled and diced
1 cup brown sugar
1 TBSP apple pie spice (or to taste)
Roll out dough that has been thawed completely to a 9x14" rectangle. Spray generously with spray margarine. Mix brown sugar and apple pie spice together and sprinkle 1/2 of it on the rolled out dough. Roll up carefully and tuck in the ends. Place in a greased loaf pan. Spray with more margarine and sprinkle the remaining sugar and spice mixture on top. Add the diced apples. Allow to rise in a warm place until it rises to the top of the pan. Bake at 400 deg for 30 minutes or until brown. When the bread is cool, you may place it on a rack and pour on a glaze made of 1/2 cup confectioners sugar and enough water to make it very thin. By the way, if you don’t like apples, Patricia says you can use cranberries or nuts on top.
Now here is a slightly more difficult method that Patricia was kind enough to give us. In it, you make your own bread dough.
1/2 cup low fat milk
3 TBSP sugar
2 tsp salt
3 TBSP butter or margarine
2 pkg active dry yeast
1 1/2 cups water (105 deg to 115 deg)
5 - 6 cups all purpose flour
Place milk, sugar, salt and butter in a small saucepan. Heat over low heat until butter melts and sugar dissolves. Cool to lukewarm. Dissolve yeast in warm water in warmed mixer bowl. Add lukewarm milk mixture and 4 1/2 cups flour. Using mixer, attach bowl and dough hooks to mixer. Turn to speed 2 and mix about 1 minute. Continuing on speed 2, add remaining flour 1/2 cup at a time. Mix about 2 minutes or until dough clings to hooks and cleans sides of bowl. Knead on speed 2 2 minutes longer or until dough is smooth and elastic. Dough will be sticky to touch. Place in a greased bowl, cover and put in a warm place about one hour. After is rises and doubles in size, punch it down, cut in half and roll each half into a rectangle and continue as we did above. This makes 2 loaves.
