GOLLY GENE I guess you didn't comprehend the meaning of my statements--nothing was mentioned that I wanted a live streaming cam, only an apology!! Obviously that must be to difficult for you so I will just chalk it up to rudeness and ignorance. With all the things going on in our country today these little things don't matter very much, they are just that--little things--so with that I bid you a goodnight and hope you have a great week!! If you ever hapen to be in Little Washington please stop by the waterfront and smile for the camera--whether it is streaming or not!

GEE FRED looks like i'm not the only one who would like to see A streaming cam. Read the posting after yours from Richard in Raleigh.

When is it going to be a live streaming cam for the Washington water front like you show on WITN TV in the mornings?

Posted by: fred Location: raleigh on Jun 15, 2009 at 08:11 PM
To GENE in FT. Myers Fl: Well it's about time you were told how rude you sound. Now let's see if it sinks in and you appologize about this great web cam site that you so rudely wrote about. If it bothers you so bad--DON'T LOOK AT IT!!!! People in NC enjoy looking at this site and appreciate WITN for allowing it on their web site. Try to find something good to say or don't say anything at all!!

Well it's about time you all got that cam back up and running. Now lets see if it stays that way, also make it A real web cam not just A picture cam.

The benches at the waterfront sit, wait and watch for your return and when it is right we will sit side by side and smile. Maybe time will slow down then, but until then enjoy your boat ride and I'll go sailing away...and we will look forward, not back.

Runner Runner it was the Young Life Run Race <3 Our waterfront is beautiful and it stays that way in part due to the clean sweep people who volunteer (like they did on Sat.) to help keep everything looking beautiful. The view was pleasing to the eye in many ways on Saturday. There were a lot of nice looking people out there running Saturday. Visit us often!!!!We love the company!!

Posted by: Runner Runner Location: Pinetops on Apr 1, 2009 at 09:43 AM
Hey Washington,I ran in the road run there this past Sat., must have been 70 kids running, never seen that many kids running a 3 mile race before. I tripped over 1 kid...think I ruptured my spleen. Very well kept waterfront. Looking forward to the next run/race there. I think it's the crab or snail run.

Eddie if you love them, truely love them with all your heart, let them go and if one day God lets them come back into your life then you will have the time that you were meant to have. Letting go is hard and so is living without them, but tomorrow is not promised to us and you have to live your life each day to the fullest (what a cliche) and find a way to be happy. Smile

I am new to this sight but after reading all the comments I wonder if it would be OK to ask all of you and especially SG and DG a very important question that has to do with the "weather" of my life. So I hope they post this because I need your help. If you found your soul mate, but the timing was not right would you wait for them, no matter how long it may take?

Posted by: BVT Location: i y heart on Mar 19, 2009 at 06:18 AM
The beauty of the river is that it will always be there to come back to. Its surroundings and appearance may change through time or due to the weather but it will always be there waiting for you to return. It will love you no matter how much you have changed or how long it has been since it last saw you...it will just be glad you returned. BWG, your life is not yet over so perhaps you might want to say, thank you for the best times of my life so far. Always Smiling

Fred, It was not my intention to stir up a storm with my comments about Washington. I noticed this morning that the powers that be at WITN evidently decided NOT to print my latest contribution. For this I am greatful since I am not a mean-tempered person by nature and should have never submitted my last comments. So, to any of you folk I may have offended, let me say I that I'm sorry. On reflection, I conclude it is I with a problem. My apologies and assurance I shall continue to read the comments that are sent in, but I shall not cloud the waterfront again with mean and vindictive meanderings. MERRY CHRISTMAS to ALL (especially Fred in Raleigh) Incidently, My name is not Henry, and I don't live in Vanceboro!!

Let's add the Mecca Pool room my dad's cuz Dick Marshlender ran and his main street resturamt was my first job at 13 , after spending summers trucking, handing, tying , grading dry tibacoo then helping mydad sell at the markets. Then as far as the Salesbys good family friends. Among several names old name I could drop. Worked at the Rendezvous from 16 on into summers returning from college. In fact it was a Saleeby that taugt me to ski barefoot. I work in broadcasting so only fitting to share Cecil Demille with my staff and my grandfather playedpiano for silent film at the Turnage! Yet I make donations to several groups and organizations for the youth their and restorations there. I own land and a cottage there so I also pay taxes. I only visit this sight to remember the past, celebrate the present and hope the future of this southeastern city I call home! Miss those who have past even Whitney Hobo the WITN clown and so many other people buildings (whichards) and Carver's chili dogs.

HKIB. Anyone, and I mean anyone, who grew up in SMALLTOWN, N. C, could rattle off their own list of rememberances from their youth that would sound almost identical to the ones you list for us in Washington (the ORIGINAL WASHINGTON,) I might concede. But when you presume to claim the title of WORLD'S GREATEST HOT DOGS for Bill's Hot Dogs, then I have to assume you have never had a hot dog outside Beaufort County, or perhaps even Washington itself. This is another of those superlatives that small towns are famous for hatching to elevate themselves in the eyes of their neighbors. (Consider, for instance, Wilson, N. C. claiming to be the "WORLDS GREATEST TOBACCO MARKET" this is a Chamber of Commerce ploy to make the rest of us eastern North Carolinians proud to share geography with Wilson. Same thing with Bill"s Hot Dogs and Jimmy's News Stand. So, HKIB, stop living in the past and, as they say, get a life!

Henry I agree that you are an interloper...however I must say we did not "fail" to mention the restaurant and artists, we were speaking of the waterfront. I am sure if many of us chose to speak of the "relics" of Washington we would mention the most important ones that u "failed" to mention.... Bill's Hot Dogs (a must visit, especially after a Parade, and world famous dogs) Dairy Palace (a place with no social boundaries),Jimmy's New stand (where I use to buy cough drops with my granddaddy),Lou Henry's(where everyone use to buy their Prom or Wedding shoes)and my favorite the Turnage Theater (were I use to watch all the Disney Movies and my first Star Wars movie with my Grandparents.Henry, please read the entires again and see if you can imagine the kind of love we speak of...you can close the windows and darken your room, and you can open the windows and let the light in. It is a matter of choice. Your heart is your room. Do you darken it or do you fill it with light?

Posted by: Henry Location: Vanceboro, N. C. on Nov 25, 2008 at 04:10 PM
TOUCHE, Sallyann. I'm shocked not one of you glorifiers of the "original Washington", failed to mention the now extinct, but glorious, Saleeby Restaurant, or your most notable family of artists, Agnes and Cecil B. de Mille. I'm guessing these "relics" of past glory are just not known to interlopers from "off". N'est pas?

I too am thankful for this webcam. I have drifted away many times at work staring at this view and remembering my soulmate. This was her most favorite place in the world. Washington is my hometown and I love it so much. A love for a town, or any location comes from memories, whether they are childhood ones or just special moments in our lives. Henry we are not suddenly telling you about our lives we have been expressing ourselves for sometime. I am disappointed in your deficiency to minutia. Henry this is a time where We ALL need to be Thankful for what we have, as well as what we once had. Why would anyone want to even see the cam unless for weather purposes if they could not share some "rapsodic" stuff and others that may read this know the beauty of this wonderful city called "Washington"...It's a very historic city and loads of things to do from eatries to boating, fishing, sailing the theatre retored and open on main street...so see these comments are much like "advertising" for such a great spot to visit in our wonderful state of NC. It has always been said the best/worst advertising is by word of mouth and I am proud of my hometown, it's past, present and future.Yes what fond times I have shared there over my 51 yrs.of living. As for the others "Henry" posted about. It is moving to hear such wonderful stories and deep feelings and how Washington played such important roles in these lives and others!

To SG and DG~ they say a love like yours only comes around once in a lifetime and they also say time heals all pain...I say a love like yours last a lifetime and that love, not time, heals all pain. Time can be the sweetest of things or the harshest reality. Some of us find this love but run out of time and some of us find this love at the wrong time. A love between soul mates last forever no matter how far apart they are, or the "shores" they chose. Visit, not with a void in your heart and soul, but with joy... that you two, if even for a brief moment in time, enjoyed a love that others may wait a lifetime to find or may pray every night that love can find a way to make it right... somewhere down the road. I miss my soul mate and no matter which sand he chooses to walk on, I will walk on the waterfront and smile and know that we were thankful for those moments in time and for all the times we said I know, believe me, I know.

Thanks so much for the webcam.I live 3 hours away and visit this site frequently.Missing my hometown and the wonderful memories of time spent there. Nothing like a riding a jet ski up to the docks getting off and grabbing a Bill's Hot Dog,going to "heaven's " garden really Haven's gardens,Whichard's Beach always a very special place in my heart, River Walk steak house, the Christmas Paradre or Floatilla, and never forget the beautiful of the Fireworks display on the 4th. The crisp winter breeze coming off the water or the refreshing mist of a summer's day. The steamed oysters or low country boil or a grill out at Wichard's.The sunrises or a sunset or a dance at Whichard's or downtown Main street.Washington is beautiful for whatever you desires yet hold a piece of me that nothing or no one can ever take away! It beautiful and my love for it will never be destroyed no matter how many lifetimes we life.as a decaying tree it will always give me a ray of light and now and always!

Posted by: SG Location: Washington on Nov 20, 2008 at 01:22 AM
I never felt the real beauty until I fell in love with my soulmate and spent the most wonderful times there with him. From celebrating anniversaries there, dancing in the window seating, enjoying walks and talks ever with the hissing snakes & crabs, the floating in the middle of the dark water without a fear knowing my love would save me. It's beauty is only faded like a love I would of never dreamed would never be beside me forever. Or has past like the flickering fireworks on the 4th or the lights at the floatilla parade at Christmas or the smell of a capacino during the Christmas parade ...I shall visit Washington always with a huge void in my heart and soul. A void only one can fill yet he chose a different body of water to journey a different shore to dwell , different sands to walk on ... Though I walk along what was once our place where I thought would be two sets of footprints forever find only one set . So I await the day where we with be together as dust in the wind as one!

I have so many memories of the waterfront....the best were spending time with my granddaddy, playing and running with my boys and walking with my best friend and falling in love. A love that will last until the end of time. So thank you again to all of you who may think you are just doing a job....you are not... you are so much more important than that, you are creating a beautiful backdrop to hundred's of people's memories.

We visited Washington a couple of months ago. We hadn't been down in almost 10 years. The waterfront is beautiful and the music on Friday night in town was a wonderful festival. I would hope the village and chamber realize that more of those things can bring communities together and improve tourism.

Looks like a very nice day on the waterfront today, will it flood there if a Catagory1 hurricane hits there???

Gee, just when I thought I was gonna get my on show like Dr. Phil, Craig comes along. Don't worry Mr. Gate Keeper, I'll not counsel here anymore. By the way, If I get my own show, maybe you can be my first guest with extreme over possesive disorder.

Once last comment Craig and then I am off. Dexter I meant to say thank you for your kind words. They meant more than I can express. I think Craig has called us out so later.< 3

Craig~ your right, I'm sorry. Maybe I should have walked on the waterfront instead of writing. It is beautiful and makes me feel better, again I am sorry.

hey dexter and social worker--this is not a counseling session site--everyone enjoys reading about the waterfront, goings on in the town and what others say about washington--don't spoil it for the ones that can do without others problems--our own are enough

The only thing I can say about that SWer, is that when you have a bad day, it's always better to call someone that will listen, and cares about you. If you choose not too, then........... I hope you get to the place that YOU think you should be, and be stronger because of it.

Sorry I shared too much!! I had a day I don't want to remember (anyone been there?) and I was also worried about the weather near where my friends live and somehow I ended up writing that blog. I should have just gone to bed. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, right?

Here's to all those fellow walkers out there on the waterfront. I walk every other Sunday, while the Sun is rising, and this past Sunday I listened to "I can see Clearly Now" on my ipod ( best gift I ever received, I highly recommend you get one) and if you haven't ever listened to the words you should. We have a beautiful waterfront (even people from Georgia and Virgina agree) so if you can and you are not already, come walk with us. I promise the view will be something to remember and you will leave with a smile on your face.

Buster, I long to go back to Savannah. I love it so much!!!! I hope I get a chance to see it again, but with life being so unpredictable I don't know If I ever will. I loved walking under the beautiful LIVE OAKS and feeling the wind in my hair. I think we all wish time could pass by a little slower, maybe even stand still, especially when you are in a beautiful setting and wish you could stay as long as you want. So get outside more and enjoy life there, someone is missing what you have. Maybe one day we will both have more time to visit the places we love. <3um

Rusty, I watched that same storm on the telecast!! It was s great series of pictures and commentary, but, so help me, my recollection was the funnel moved laterally from right to left on my screen indicating an eastward direction of travel. Is it possible you were seeing the tornado in your rear-view mirror?

Posted by: Rusty Location: Washington on Jul 22, 2008 at 02:22 PM
It seems one of the recoreded highlights was the tornado in Chocowinity a couple of months back. Simple story, I was watching the storm from my GMC Suburban right on Stewarts Parkway. The reason for this, my golden retriever had shoved my 4wd into neutral when she dove under the dash during the thunderstorm..scared of thunder..I thought the vehicle had broken down right there and was going to ride it out. Watched the tornado pass over Chocowinity and head west. Wind was pretty strong at Stewarts Parkway. I was parked along there right under the camera location. Wish I'd known she knocked the selector in neutral, I would have gotten out pretty quick. I found out the next day.

Mr. Blue Sky, you must be far away..because it is so sad to say but you and the Sunshine are lost today and the dark clouds are predicting a storm. Storms are such a contradiction..they can make you worry and hurt you and yet the rain that comes with it can breathe new life into other things that needed it for so long. The Sun and the Sky are beautiful when they are together, but aren't the sky and the clouds always closer?..Mr. Blue Sky there is always an "if" catch when it comes to magic ...U KNOW !!!! L

Henry, it's nice to be loved you know......Cause.... the sun is shining in the sky. There ain't a cloud in sight, it's stopped raining, everybodys playing And don't you know, It's a beautiful new day. As far as the drink Virginia, it'a a strange magic.

Henry, or should I say Yoda, you stand corrected... I am a Pirate, who just happens to be in LOVE with a Blue Sky and when I go a long time without seeing it I close my eyes and try to recall the images and it stays on my brain...what can I say Henry, I love it and there seems to be no cure...I feel it is like someone put something in my drink!!!!!

With reference to the posting from "Virginia Location" immediately before this: All those references to beautiful blue skies would certainly suggest this Virginia "HOO" is, in reality, a Tar Heel, n'est pas?

To Mark, (from Maryland/Washington, NC). Mark, surely you realize this continuing conversation about the bridge pilings is "tongue-in-cheek" banter among southerners.

Posted by: Mark Location: Maryland/Washington NC on Jun 9, 2008 at 11:45 AM
I'm sure the river wildlife would enjoy having the bedliner sprayed onto the pilings. Unless some type of treatment is required as part of the bridges maintenance...leaving it alone seems the best option.

Posted by: Red Location: Mattamuskeet on Jun 3, 2008 at 10:10 PM
I agree 100% Fred. I would recommend painting the pilings with spray in bedliner. Then give them a beautiful floral design.

Posted by: Fred Location: Washington on Jun 2, 2008 at 11:10 AM
FWIW. The "evil" van is parked behind the business that owns it. I'm sure it's parked in the camera's scene, to be seen. The "ugly unpainted" pilings beneath the bridge are made of concrete. I'm sure we could drain the river, pressure-wash the pilings to remove the marine growth. Then paint them a lovely light gray to match the rest of the bridge. Then do it again in 6 months, after all the paint peels off. ;-)

I really enjoyed the view of the waterfront. I enjoyed the comments even more. I especially liked the slap about the disgruntled yankees. That was sweet.
