The Drought Continues Across Eastern North Carolina

Moderate to severe drought conditions will continue across eastern North Carolina this week.

It has been a hot and dry June across eastern North Carolina.  Rainfall has been sparse and temperatures have averaged approximately 4° above normal.  Most communities picked up a bit of rain early Monday morning but certainly not enough to even dent the ongoing drought conditions.  What little moisture that was received will be long gone as we head into the middle of this week.  Highs by Wednesday and Thursday will hit the middle to upper 90s with moderately high relative humidity levels.  Consequently, heat indices will surge over 100° during the afternoons.  Only isolated to stray thunderstorms can be expected for the next few days.  A cool front may get close enough to bring some additional showers by Friday and the weekend but I don't see an end to the drought soon.
