The colors of the fall season are in full view across our area. The peak of the season was reached in western North Carolina in mid to late October depending on the elevation. The Piedmont has seen the foliage change rapidly to reds and oranges over the past week to 10 days and are now reaching peak. The northern Coastal Plain of our area is close to peak and should be at that level within the next few days. It includes the area around Tarboro and Rocky Mount northward to the Virginia border. Communities near and west of Highway 17 are seeing rapid color change at the current time and should reach peak next week. The color change will be slower near the beaches but some color is already showing up. Rain is expected by Tuesday and that could cause some of the colorful leaves to drop off the trees. Take a break and enjoy the beautiful color this weekend across eastern North Carolina.
