Summer Forecast For Eastern North Carolina

It looks like an average summer for temperatures and rainfall across eastern North Carolina.

The Climate Prediction Center has given the summer forecast and it looks rather typical for eastern North Carolina.  If the forecast verifies, it will likely be drier than normal and quite warm during the month of June.  It appears the heat will be tempered in July and August as the tropics become more active.  Normal to above normal rainfall can be expected those two months as moisture increases from tropical regions.  Of course, there will be a threat for a tropical storm or hurricane as we move deeper in the summer and into the early fall.  Eastern North Carolina has been spared from significant storms for the past several years.  I'm happy about that but I worry our luck may run out soon.  Some forecasters suggest we may be overdue for a major storm threat to our area.  I hope that won't happen but now is a good time to get prepared for whatever happens later in the summer.
