A mild winter across eastern North Carolina will give way to an early spring. Much of the vegetation across our area is running a bit ahead of schedule and that trend will continue through March. It now appears that we'll see a significant change in the weather pattern after cooler air arrives for this weekend. We'll see highs back into the lower 70s early next week and there are hints we could see several days with highs close to 80° as we go past the middle of March. Normal highs this time of year are in the lower to middle 60s. There is also a hint that we'll see a drier period after Friday and continuing through next week.
The mild winter and early spring may bring additional insect problems for all of us during the summer. It also appears we may see another hot summer with temperatures running a bit above normal. The good news is that we should see more shower activity than last summer when a moderate to severe drought was in progress. I'll update the summer forecast in a few weeks.
