The cold winter continued across eastern North Carolina this week. So far in January we've averaged about 7 degrees below normal after a December which was the coldest since 1989. We'll finally see a break over the next 3 to 4 days. Over the weekend we'll see seasonable temperatures in the upper 40s to lower 50s. Even milder conditions will arrive early next week with some showers. In fact, some communities could reach 60 degrees on Tuesday. Any mild weather will not last long as more cold air is building in northern Canada. It appears that cold air will return to the Southeast by the middle to latter portion of next week. Winter will not go away easily this year.
