The intense heat wave across eastern North Carolina has been tempered by a few showers and thunderstorms over the past couple of days. Clouds with additional showers and thunderstorms should keep temperatures around 90 degrees for Tuesday. The parched land could use a drink of water and it appears most communities will see some rainfall before drier air returns on Wednesday. We should see an average of one-half to one inch of rain, with locally heavier amounts. Sunny and hot conditions will return by Wednesday and we could see highs well into the 90s by Friday and Saturday. Enjoy the break while it lasts.
