Some Relief From The Drought Expected

A weather pattern shift will bring a better chance for showers across eastern North Carolina over the next week to 10 days.

The weather pattern across the eastern United States has been stuck in a rut over the past few weeks.  Lots of rain has fallen across the Midwest and parts of the Northeast while leaving much of our area with only isolated showers and thunderstorms.  It appears we are finally seeing some changes that will bring some relief from the drought.  Moisture is gradually increasing across the Southeast along with increasing instability in the atmosphere.  In addition, a cool front will move into North Carolina on Saturday and stall just to our west and north.  Some showers and thunderstorms will likely develop along and south of the front giving eastern North Carolina the best chances for rain we've seen in two months.  It will not be enough to end the drought by any means but any rainfall at this point would help the farmers, gardeners and folks that are just trying to keep their lawn from dying.
