Some Rain Then More Heat
We've seen some relief from the severe drought conditions across eastern North Carolina over the past few days. Most communities received some rainfall on Monday but barely enough to dent the drought. The higher relative humidity, light winds and showers have helped firefighters battle the raging wildfires in Dare and Pender counties. It looks like more relief in the form of showers and thunderstorms will continue into Wednesday before finally tapering off at night. There will be some locally heavy showers but most locations should see another quarter to half-inch of rain. Drier conditions will return on Thursday along with lots of sunshine. Temperatures will be a bit cooler through Thursday but a strong surge of heat will hit eastern North Carolina for the July 4 Weekend. Highs are expected to reach the middle 90s Saturday through Monday. Heat indices could surge to 100° to 105° all three days. The next significant chance for showers after Wednesday should not arrive until after July 4. Let's hope most of us can get a good shower by Wednesday night.
