Portions of the North Carolina Piedmont continue to experience severe drought conditions due to below normal precipitation over the past few months. The area most affected by the drought extends from near Raleigh to Greensboro and south to the South Carolina border. Moderate drought conditions continues over the remainder of the Piedmont. Abnormally dry conditions persist west of Highway 17 in much of North Carolina's Coastal Plain as well as across northwestern sections of the state. The only locations with normal soil moisture includes areas along and east of Highway 17 and across southwestern sections of the state. After Wednesday morning, little additional rainfall is expected for the next several days.
