Plenty Of Heat This Week

There will be lots of sunshine and heat across eastern North Carolina this week.

I talked about the early start to summer last week and it shows no signs of giving up for the upcoming week.  Highs on Monday reached the lower 90s inland and 80s on the coast.  More of the same can be expected for the remainder of the week.  A building ridge of high pressure at the surface and aloft will help the atmosphere remain fairly stable and dry.  The surface is quite dry in much of area and that will intensify the heat.  The sun has to use some energy to dry out the soil if soil is wet.  Combine all of this with light winds and lots of sunshine and you have a recipe for a heat wave.  Average temperatures for the first week of June should be in the lower to middle 80s.  We should beat those temperatures by 8 to 10 degrees for the remainder of the week and weekend.  Drink plenty of water and stay out of the heat as much as possible.
