Eastern North Carolina has endured a hot summer thus far but now even hotter air will be moving into the area. Temperatures reached the lower to middle 90s Tuesday and we should see similar highs on Wednesday. Many inland communities are likely to hit the upper 90s Thursday through the weekend, with 100° likely in a few areas. The combination of high temperatures and moderate to high relative humidity levels will send heat indices to 105° to 110° by late in the week. The heat wave should begin to break early next week but not before the area is scorched this weekend. Only isolated thunderstorms are expected for the next several days.
