This summer has been very hot across much of the Southeast including eastern North Carolina. Temperatures averaged 4° above normal in June and 2° above normal this month. The next two days will feature intense heat across the area. Highs will soar into the upper 90s inland while beaches hit the lower 90s. The relative humidity will be increasing and that will take heat indices to 105° to 110° in the afternoon and early evening. A heat advisory is in effect for much of the area on Tuesday. The heat will continue on Wednesday before some relief finally arrives on Thursday. We may see a few thunderstorms this week but widespread rainfall is not likely. More dry weather is expected for the late week and weekend.
