A surge of heat will be heading for eastern North Carolina this weekend into early next week.

Eastern North Carolina has been under the domination of an low pressure for the past few days and dotting the area with scattered showers. The system responsible for the unsettled weather will be pushing offshore by Friday allowing more sunshine and warmer temperatures. A significant surge of hot southwesterly winds will invade the region on Saturday, taking highs into the lower to middle 80s. Most communities along and west of Highway 17 will reach the upper 80s to around 90 degrees Sunday into early next week. There will only be a slight risk of showers after Thursday. The beaches should hit the upper 70s to around 80 degrees by Friday and the weekend. Get the air conditioners ready for the first real onslaught of summer heat.
