Get Ready For More Cold Air In January

By: WITN Weather

Chilly temperatures will continue to dominate the weather pattern through much of January.

Since December 1 we've seen some very chilly weather across eastern North Carolina.  In December alone temperatures averaged almost 11 degrees below normal.  We did start out with high temperatures in the 60s the first two days of January but the chill has descended upon us once again.  More cold air is waiting in the wings for next week.  A large mound of Arctic air will surge south and east out of western Canada early next week and reach the Southeast by the middle of the week.  There is likely to be a significant winter storm across the Southeast and Middle Atlantic region ahead of the Arctic surge.  It is way too early to pinpoint the details but our weather should be watched closely as we head into next week.
